Mendel Elementary Welcomes New Students with First Quarter Luncheon
Mendel Elementary School’s Student Transition Ambassadors and Anchored4Life Leaders teamed up to host the First Quarter New Student Luncheon on October 23. This special event provided an opportunity for students to connect, check in, and celebrate the newest members of the Panda family.
During the luncheon, students enjoyed lunch together, played games, and visited a fun popcorn bar. More importantly, it gave new students a chance to share how their first quarter has been, ask questions, and feel supported by their peers and staff. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, encouragement, and a genuine sense of belonging.
This event was organized by Ms. Buritica, Mendel’s Student Transition Coordinator, and supported by Ms. Green, our MFLC Counselors, along with the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).
Transition programs like Mendel’s Student Transition Ambassadors and Anchored4Life play a vital role in helping students adjust to new environments – especially those who may be transitioning due to military moves or other life changes. Starting at a new school can be overwhelming, but programs like these ensure that every student feels seen, supported, and connected from the very beginning.
By pairing new students with trained peer leaders, these programs encourage friendship, confidence, and belonging. When students feel welcomed and valued, they are more likely to engage in class, participate in school activities, and build positive relationships. This sense of connection strengthens academic performance, emotional well-being, and the overall school community.

At Mendel Elementary, our theme – “Together we lead with heart, learn with purpose, and rise higher” – reflects the spirit behind our transition initiatives. Through kindness, leadership, and collaboration, our students and staff create an environment where every child can thrive and feel at home.
